'What are monsters? Most are raised to believe it’s what lumbers at you from the dark, the secretions of fear and dread left behind by what bites at your Achilles and drags itself over the broken remnants of the fear we all have, the one in the back of our mind that no one knows. All Monsters releases a sonic response to that theory, disproving it greatly. The real monsters are what sway and danced towards you, drunk off excess and dopamine, the real monsters destroy you with a smile. What does any of this have to do with the self-titled release by All Monsters? The answer is within the album itself, while maintaining a confrontational and venomous energy, akin to dying slowly from tetanus by way of rusted nails, its outside influences shine through with a brighter remedy. Moments of industrial, danceable post and horror punk find ways to intwine themselves within the fabric of the black metal that infects most of the brilliant noise. Adding outside influence is always a fickle beast. Can the artist maintain control of the genre they play, without allowing their momentary whims to debase the song writing process? Often, the mark is missed, and the songs are diluted by the artist trying to hold it together. All Monsters avoid these missteps by concussively picking and choosing what influence goes where. It all exists within the pantheon of the black metal which acts as its foundation. The chameleon nature of black metal allows outside genres to influence the atmosphere, without overtaking or overstepping its welcome. The outside black metal influences act as the Lago to its foundation’s Othello, playing a role, without stepping into the lead, throwing everything into the exact chaos and social pandering, that this album warns.' -JB
